Yelm teenager encourages peers to pursue the experience
Morgan Forde served as a legislative page Jan. 25-29 in the Washington State House of Representatives. She was sponsored by Rep. Jim McCune, R-Graham.
Morgan, 15, is the daughter of Jay and Nikki Forde of Yelm, and is a sophomore at Yelm High School. Her responsibilities at the state Capitol included delivering messages and documents to legislators and legislative assistants, committee meetings and House chambers. Morgan also spent time in the legislative page school learning about state government.
“This week was fun and a lot of hard work. It’s a great opportunity for the people who can experience it,” said Forde. “I enjoyed my relationships with the other pages, and I will encourage other students to look into the program.”
Morgan’s favorite subject at school is AP World History, and she hopes to go to law school someday.
Young men and women have come to Olympia to serve as pages for the Washington State Legislature since 1891. Pages must obtain permission from their parents and schools, and most live with volunteer host families.
